My son turned six over the weekend. But this year, there was no big birthday party.
When I was growing up, my mom always made a big deal out of birthdays, and so now we carry on that tradition. We have always had big, fun parties with lots of friends joining in for the celebrations. Every year, a themed-party...from Willy Wonka, to Dora the Explorer, to Pirates, to Moana, and everything in between. Until now.
I was hoping we could still make my son's birthday memorable.
We decided to still do a party (spider-man themed, per his request) complete with invitations, games, prizes, goodies, singing, and cake/ice cream. Even though no friends could come, he and his sisters could play the games and eat the treats and enjoy the present opening. I gave them all their invitations a few days before the party, and they were anticipating it all week!
In the end, it was definitely different, but he was happy.
Plus, kids really just like the presents anyway! And it felt less stressful, and little glitches in the games weren't a big deal, since it was just my three.
Overall, a great birthday!
