City Art...Pandemic Style

A few weeks ago we started talking about city art and sculptures for a homeschool art lesson. We began by each selecting a city and researching some of the city art in that particular location. Then we  each sketched what kind of sculpture we would create in our own imaginary town, and then pulled out the playdough to make a 3D version of our sculpture. The unit ended with a field trip to downtown Dallas for a driving tour of their city art, compliments of this website. We talked about why we have city art, and how our lives would be if we had no art. The kids sketched out the sculptures we found, I shared a little of the history of that particular piece, and we ended the day with a picnic. So all in all, a successful field trip, even if we had to stay in the car! (Note...when no one was around, the kids got out to strike a quick pose with the sculpture we were learning about).
