“What is it?” Jax asked.
“I’ll show you, but we have to clean up first.” Everyone helped to clear the dishes, wash the table, and sweep the floor. As soon as the dishes were cleaned, Dad said, “Okay, everyone meet me in the hallway.”
Dad rummaged around in the lower cabinets, and pulled out all the plastic cups and water bottles he could find.
“What’s the game?” Mom asked, eyeing the collection of cups and bottles.
“Um...sort of a bowling game,” replied Dad mysteriously.
“Is anyone going to get hurt?”
“I don’t think so.”
“Great! Sounds fun!” replied Mom. A few minutes later Mom and Dad joined the three kids in the long hallway. Dad leaned down to Jax and whispered something in his ear. Jax ran away quickly.
“What did you tell Jax?” Sissy asked, with a bit of envy that she wasn’t in on the secret.
“He’s just getting something for us,” Dad responded. While Jax was gone, Dad went to the other end of the hallway and carefully placed the many cups and water bottles on the hardwood floor, as if they were bowling pins.
By then Jax had come back....carrying a skateboard! “What are we doing?” Gigi asked.
“Welcome to skateboard bowling!” Dad declared.
“Really??!!” Sissy screamed, jumping up and down.
“Okay Sissy, you are first. Do you trust me?” said Dad, with a slight glimmer in his eye. She nodded her head. Dad placed the skateboard on the floor. Sissy laid down on her belly on top of the skateboard. “Hold on tight. I don’t know how this is going to go,” Dad instructed. Mom’s eyes were open a little bit wider than normal.
“One,” said Dad, as he gently pushed Sissy forward.
“Two,” he said, as he pushed her back slightly.
“Three!” he yelled, and pushed her forward quickly. The skateboard, with Sissy holding on tight, flew down the slick hallway.
“Wahoo!!!” Sissy yelled. A few seconds later, she crashed into the cups and bottles, knocking all of them over. She stopped herself before hitting the other end of the hallway.

“That was awesome!!!” she screamed, jumping up.
“I want a turn! I want a turn!” Jax and Gigi said.
“Okay, Jax, your turn,” replied Dad, with a giant smile. Just like Sissy, Jax went sailing to the other end of the hallway, knocking down all the obstacles in his way. Gigi made it most of the way, as Dad pushed her a little less hard. She knocked over all but three of the cups.
Everyone was ready for a second turn. For the next 20 minutes, Sissy, Jax, and Gigi took turn after turn of going down the hallway on the skateboard. Sometimes they fell off the ride, and onto the floor, rolling with laughter. Sometimes they didn’t make it all the way to the end. And sometimes they went so hard they crashed into the door at the end of the hallway.
“Dad,” said Sissy. “How did you think of this? You are so creative!”
“Well, I guess it’s just because I think playing together is important. It helps us trust each other more.”
“Okay, Dad, your turn,” said Mom, a few minutes later.
“My turn?” said Dad, with raised eyebrows.
“Yep! I’ll give ya a push.”
